＂The recent visit to China has left me with so many beautiful and distinctive impressions, especially the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, which overwhelmed me,＂ Russian State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov told Xinhua in an interview.
＂This is an impressive and magnificent World Expo, where we have seen so many amazing high-tech items on display,＂ Russia's top legislator said.
Gryzlov toured the Chinese and Russian pavilions at the Shanghai World Expo while heading a State Duma delegation for an official visit to China on May 18-20.
Speaking of his recent visit to China, Gryzlov said one of its most remarkable achievements is that both Russia and China have reiterated their resolution not to let history be rewritten.
He added that recent important events related to bilateral ties were the celebrations marking the 65th anniversary of World War II victory.
＂When attending the celebrations marking the 65th anniversary of the Victory Day, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Chinese President Hu Jintao have set the basic tone for this issue. And we have continued relevant dialogue during our visit to China,＂ he said.
During the visit, Gryzlov said, the two sides held the fourth meeting of the Russian-Chinese parliamentary cooperation committee and discussed a variety of issues related to inter-parliamentary cooperation.
＂The development of inter-parliamentary cooperation has undoubtedly played a very important role in the advancement of the Russian-Chinese bilateral ties,＂ he said.
Gryzlov said during the visit the two sides had also made greater efforts to develop bilateral cooperation in such sectors as energy, hi-tech, culture, the economy and trade as well as regional collaboration.
＂I believe cooperation in energy and hi-tech sectors between our two countries are promising with bright prospects,＂ he added.
As two major international powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council, Gryzlov said, both Russia and China have a unique influence on almost all sectors in global affairs.
A good relationship between two neighboring powers is definitely of vital significance to contemporary global politics and the consolidation of the multilateral mechanism among international relations, he said.
According to him, cooperation between Russia and China within the framework of international organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency, is playing an important role in safeguarding global security.
The Russian lawmaker noted the news media's great influence on today's world, saying the press not only influences society, but also serves as the catalyst for many major policies.
Hailing Xinhua news agency as ＂one of the largest and most influential media,＂ Gryzlov is confident that the Chinese people will continue to be well informed of major news events regarding Russian-Chinese relations via mass media such as Xinhua.
