Chinese coal ship waiting to be towed back to China
Date : 2010-5-24    Hit : 179

The Chinese coal carrier Shen Neng 1, which ran aground on the Great Barrier Reef off central Queensland in early April, arrived at safe anchorage off the Port of Gladstone on Sunday, where it was waiting to be towed back to China.

A Maritime Safety Queensland spokesman on Sunday said the deep- sea tug De Da, which was due to arrive from Singapore in late May, would tow the Shen Neng 1 back to China.

Salvage experts had finished offloading one-third of the ship's 65,000 tons of coal last Thursday, making the Chinese coal vessel light enough to be towed back to China.

The ship was originally moved to Gladstone for salvaging, but was shifted again to an anchorage in calm, protected waters off Hervey Bay last Tuesday.
