Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan met with German President Horst Koehler here Tuesday, pledging closer cooperation with Germany to tackle the global financial crisis.

China and Germany, both countries of great influence, are important cooperative partners, Wang said.

China hoeps to deepen cooperation with Germany within the G20 framework, Wang added.

Wang also expressed China's willingness to make joint efforts with Germany to boost reform of the global financial system.

China is also actively boosting its international cooperation, he said.

Koehler said countries should take concrete steps and draw on the lessons learned from the financial crisis and increase international cooperation.

Germany hopes to cement contacts and coordination with China, so as to contribute to the building of a fair and rational international financial system, he said.

Koehler, who kicked off the visit to China on Monday, will attend the Germany Day at the Shanghai Expo on Wednesday.

During a press briefing Tuesday, Koehler told reporters Germany hopes to demonstrate to the world at the Shanghai Expo how to find a balance between human activities and nature.

Koehler is visiting China as guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao.
