Yemeni security authorities kicked off a security campaign to try to free the two Chinese oil workers held by southern armed tribesmen in the southeast province of Shabwa, the country's Defense Ministry said Monday.
The governor of Shabwa, Ali Hassan al-Ahmadi, told the ministry 's website that "a team of security force has been dispatched to Hada area where the kidnappers hold the two Chinese workers along with four Yemeni escorts."
"We call on the kidnappers to quickly free the two Chinese men along with their four Yemeni escorts unconditionally and to give themselves up to the security authorities," the ministry quoted governor al-Ahmadi as saying.
Al-Ahmadi said that "security authorities identified the kidnappers as outlaw elements from the tribe of al-Kamoush who committed the criminal kidnap yesterday afternoon."
He said tribal chieftains in the area showed their good intention to secure the release.
