Chinese President holds talks with Mongolian president

Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with visiting Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj in Shanghai on Saturday.

Hu said China-Mongolia relations has been consolidated and developed during the 60-plus years since the two countries established official diplomatic relations in 1949.

Faced with great opportunities, China is willing to join hands with Mongolia to carry forward the relations, Hu said.

Hu invited Mongolian leaders to pay more visits to China and said China hopes to continue holding high-level meetings with Mongolian officials on international and multi-lateral occasions.

He urged the two countries to deepen economic and trade cooperation in the fields of infrastructure construction and mineral resources exploitation.

Hu called for more efforts to promote exchanges in the fields of culture, education, science and technology, medical services, sports and tourism and between young people of the two countries.

He also urged strengthened cooperation and coordination between the two nations on international and regional issues to safeguard common interests of the two nations.

Elbegdorj said he fully agreed to Hu's suggestions on furthering Mongolia-China relations and expressed gratitude to China for its economic aid.

Mongolia will join hands with China to enhance exchanges at various levels and step up cooperation and coordination in the fields of mineral materials, agriculture, animal husbandry and desertification control, and also in dealing with international and regional affairs, Elbegdorj said.

The talks were held in the Shanghai International Convention Center. Elbegdorj, on a state visit to China, attended the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo on Friday evening.
